Dell has revealed some of the new products it’s announcing at CES 2020 in Las Vegas, including an updated version of the excellent Dell XPS 13 laptop.
That’s right, we’re barely into 2020 and already companies are starting to bring new and (hopefully) improved products to market. You’ll likely hear plenty of breathless announcements from CES this year, so let’s cut to the chase and separate the wheat from the chaff among Dell’s announcements.
Dell XPS 13
Dell’s XPS range of laptops are regarded as some of the best ultrabooks on the market, consistently winning over reviewers and consumers alike. And, for 2020, Dell has seen fit to update some of the 13-inch version’s core features to help make it a true MacBook competitor.
The 2020 model gets a slightly larger 13.4-inch display than its predecessor, as well as a new, slightly taller 16:10 aspect ratio. This new screen design means that you should be able to fit more stuff onto your screen at any one time, making it perfect for mobile workers. The new XPS 13 also gets a 17% larger touchpad. Again, this should be a boon for on-the-go working.
You’ll have three choices of screen type with entry-level models using a Full HD+, non-touchscreen panel. Middling models will get a touchscreen Full HD+ panel, while the most expensive models will get a 4K touchscreen display.
Alongside the minor redesign, Dell has also seen fit to kit-out the XPS 13 with the latest 10th-gen Intel Core processors. The company is also claiming a 19-hour battery life.
The new XPS 13 will come in two colors: silver with a black interior, or white all over. Prices will start from $999 and it’ll hit the shelves on 7 January.
Best Laptops for Designers – not just the MacBook Pro (but yes, that too)
Dell Latitude 9510
Alongside the new XPS 13, Dell has released an even-more-premium version of its professional Latitude lineup.
The 9510 is designed to make your colleagues green with envy, featuring a 15-inch screen, 30 hours of battery life, and 5G connectivity — the latter being a first for Dell.
According to the company, the 9510 is the smallest and lightest 15-inch model in its sector (weighing just 1.5kg) while also boasting a full selection of ports – something the latest MacBook Pros can’t offer.
It also features improved audio hardware for seamless conference calling, including four separate microphones and top-firing speakers — an office power play if we’ve ever seen it.
There’s no word on price yet (although your Head of IT is the person to convince, not your credit card). It should be available on 26 March.
Alienware 25 Gaming Monitor
Finally, Dell announced a new gaming monitor to help bolster your procrastination set-up this year.
The Alienware 25 will be one of the first gaming monitors to feature an IPS panel with a blisteringly-fast 240Hz refresh rate. This super-quick screen, coupled with a very low 1 millisecond response time makes it perfect for fast-paced games.
It’ll go on sale March 11, costing $500.
Dell Cinema Guide
One release we definitely weren’t expecting is Dell Cinema Guide. Essentially a search engine, Cinema Guide will let you look up TV shows and movies from around 200 providers, making it easier than ever to find that film you want to watch.
Dell was coy about which streaming services Cinema Guide will be able to trawl through, so it might not prove that useful if those 200 providers don’t have the same catalog as, say, Netflix.
It’ll also be available to download on any Windows device, not just Dell products.
