Anthropic Announces New API Web Search Tool for Claude AI

Anthropic has rolled out a new web search tool for its line of AI chatbots, Claude.

Anthropic has announced a new web search tool to its AI chatbot range, Claude, thanks to a new API. Developers will now be able to use the tool to create ‘Claude-powered’ apps that deliver real-time and current information from a range of sources.

This update comes shortly after Anthropic announced a deep research tool and a new set of integrations, allowing the bot to peruse a wide range of information, and analyze data before giving in-depth answers.

As AI overview continues to dominate Google searches these days, advancements such as web search tools could see the end of the traditional search engine. Ensuring your business maintains a strong content and SEO strategy remains vital for connecting with customers.

Anthropic’s Claude Now Able to Search The Web with New API

Claude AI models will now be able to search across the web thanks to the introduction of a new API, according to Anthropic. The announcement was made in a press release published on Wednesday.

With the new API, developers are able to build ‘Claude-powered’ apps that deliver real-time, up-to-date information “without needing to manage their own web search infrastructure.” Likewise, when the API is enabled, Claude uses “reasoning” capabilities to determine whether the user’s request requires up-to-date or specialized information.

If the bot decides to search the web, it will generate a query before receiving and analyzing the results, and provide an answer with citations. Claude is also able to refine existing queries and carry out multiple searches, using earlier results to inform thinking.

Anthropic Establishng Itself In a Crowded Market

Anthropic has introduced a wave of new updates to Claude as of late, with the most recent being a new set of integrations that includes the likes of Square and PayPal. In the same breath, the company introduced a deep research tool, that gears its chatbot up to compete with the likes of Gemini and Copilot, who introduced similar features not so long ago.

The web search tool will also be available in Claude Code – a chatbot designed for developers who want to use AI for coding tasks. The model is able to perform calculations and analyze data from files such as PDFs, and configure the results as interactive visualizations.

Chatbots continue to evolve and develop at a rapid pace, and the new updates to Claude can be seen as an attempt from Anthropic to define their product in a competitive field.

AI Has Changed the Traditional Search Engine

According to SOCi’s Consumer Behaviour Index19% of consumers already use AI for general searches, and for the first time in its 22-year history, searches on Safari declined in April. Many companies such as Alphabet and Apple have also indicated that they believe AI will replace the traditional search engine.

The most notable change to Google search results came last year, when AI overview, powered by Gemini, was introduced. The tool is able to pull information from a variety of pages and come up with an answer for most queries. Since then, website visibility and SEO have been greatly impacted.

Adapting your business’s content and SEO strategy continues to be important as more search tools are introduced into AI models.
