The way technology hits the things we use in our daily lives is becoming increasingly amazing. Even the most common objects are getting new and improved versions of themselves in ways that were, a few years ago, truly unimaginable. The Internet of Things is a great example of this, but it goes deeper to even more ordinary objects.
Take water bottles, for example. From the common plastic and uninteresting designs, they now live a new life with amazing shapes, which are also more useful to take around, with a big advantage point: they are reusable. And now, so it seems, they are smart as well – meet Hidrate Spark, one of the most amazing high-tech water bottles you can find.
The Hidrate Spark bottle is capable of keeping track of how much water you drink each day and, if desired, can come up with a daily water drinking goal. All this tracking is made together with its official app, which warns the user if the goal is not being met, and the bottle can glow to warn the user about that same thing.
The bottle is built with BPA Free Tritan Plastic and has a 24 fl.oz. capacity (a bit over 700mL). It is dishwasher safe, which saves the pain of having to hand-washing it, and its replaceable battery can last up to a whole year. Hidrate Spark’s app is Android, iOS and Apple Watch compatible, meaning that fits most people’s mobile devices. The bottle can connect with popular health apps such as Fitbit, MyFitnessPal, Jawbone, and Misfit.
Nadya Nguyen, the creator of Hidrate Spark, is also an interesting case of entrepreneurial success. She went from pitching her idea for a smart water bottle at a Startup Weekend in Minneapolis to, in an astounding 54 hours, building a water bottle that tracked water intake and synced with an app on a mobile device.
After this, the team from Hidrate went on to getting accepted into the Sprint Mobile Health Accelerator Program powered by Techstars and, recently, had a very successful Kickstarter campaign, which raised almost $700,000. All this was achieved in less than a year, which clearly makes Nguyen an example to be followed.
Hidrate Spark water bottle can be pre-ordered from the company’s website for $59.95. There are 6 colors to choose from (iceberg white, bamboo green, ocean teal, crystal pink, amethyst purple and obsidian black) and bottles will start shipping in April.
