During this season of mass-travel, many of us are thankful for the flight crews that get us to our destinations safely and comfortably. JetJoose Co-CEO and Co-Founder Ronan Keane decided that these crews deserved their own social network to help them make the mass-travel that is part of their everyday lives more enjoyable.
JetJoose is a social network exclusive to pilots and flight attendants. Users can discover new places to visit while on layovers and get tips and discounts to enhance their professional jetsetting lives.
Keane explains how his favorite flight attendant helped to inspire him to launch JetJoose, among other things, below.
Tech Cocktail: Who does JetJoose target?
Keane: We target flight crew (flight attendants and pilots) from every airline around the world, and the travelling public.
Tech Cocktail: What was the inspiration behind JetJoose?
Keane: My wife was my inspiration for starting JetJoose.com. She’s a flight attendant with one of the large U.S. carriers. When she first started flying, she didn’t know what to do in cities around the world. So I started JetJoose.com so flight crew could share places to visit with each other.
Tech Cocktail: Who is your greatest competitor, and how do you differentiate yourself?
Keane: We don’t have a competitor. Our closest competitor would be TripAdvisor.com. When you read recommendations on TripAdvisor.com, they’re from people who have visited a place a few times, whereas on JetJoose.com, people can read reviews and recommendations from people who fly and visit those places every week – i.e., flight crews.
Tech Cocktail: What is the biggest disadvantage of starting up in DC?
Keane: Meeting people who can help me is a challenge since I live in the western part of Northern Virginia, which makes traveling to DC a long commute. This also makes it difficult to network more with good people.
Tech Cocktail: What’s the most challenging thing about starting up?
Keane: There are lots of challenging moments. The biggest challenge is keeping momentum since all of our team have full-time jobs and work on JetJoose.com part-time. We also have a board of advisers who are all flight crew. Getting everyone on a conference call at the same time is a nightmare!
JetJoose was a featured startup at our Tech Cocktail DC Mixer & Startup Showcase. JetJoose was also a DCWEEK Winner, along with Eventstir and Encore.
