Microsoft Teams Will Finally Let You Search for Message Threads

Users have been begging Microsoft to fix this frustrating bug and it looks like they'll finally get their wish.

Microsoft is addressing the needs of Teams users once again, as a new update will solve an incredible frustrating bug that prevents users from seeing full message threads on the platform.

The customer is always right. At least, that appears to be the mantra behind Microsoft Teams updates, with the company regularly taking user feedback in service of comprehensive updates to the collaboration platform. While it might not be the best web conferencing tool on the market, it’s frequent updates make it a popular option for businesses with remote employees.

Another one of those updates should be coming soon, and it will address a problem that many users have complained about in recent years.

Microsoft Teams Plans New Message Thread Features

Spotted on the Microsoft 365 roadmap, which highlights all the potential and upcoming changes to Microsoft services, a new update will likely come to Teams that will allow users to view full message threads when searching the platform, rather than just a small snippet. As the Microsoft 365 roadmap puts it:

“When users search for a chat message in Teams and click on a message result, they are taken to a view that contains only the selected message, rather than the entire chat thread. This fix will now land the users on the full chat thread once the message search result is clicked, thereby providing full context of the conversation around the message result.”

While many Microsoft Teams updates are listed to go live that same month, it looks like users will have to wait a bit longer for this one. The Microsoft 365 roadmap shows that this new feature will likely go live sometime in October, so keep an eye out if you’re frustrated by the current message search feature.

Should Your Business Use Microsoft Teams?

At, we do a lot of research on business resources that can help your company grow. One of our main focuses is web conferencing software like Microsoft Teams, as remote teams are increasingly reliant on this kind of tech to keep productivity up. So, do we think that Microsoft Teams is a good fit for the average business?

Our research shows that Microsoft Teams is a solid option for businesses, providing lots of collaboration features along with the web conferencing tools. Plus, it comes with a lot of updates, which can seriously improve functionality over time.

It’s worth noting that Microsoft Teams is better for larger teams, though, particularly those that already use Microsoft 365 for other business needs. All the features can be a bit intimidating, especially if all you need is a video chat platform.

If you need ease of use more than anything, we’d recommend going for Zoom or Google Meet instead. They’re both very easy to use, offer great audio and video quality, and integrate with the majority of other platforms. Still, you and your business would be remiss if you didn’t at least investigate the value of Microsoft Teams before you commit elsewhere.
