Facebook, one of the leading social media companies, is making waves by impacting far more than just the social media space. Despite the announcement of their recent disappointments with their yearly diversity report, the company is still going strong when it comes to user engagement and looking towards the next big thing in tech. Still, news recently unfolded of Facebook reaching over 1 billion monthly users for their Messanger app – showing that the company has no intentions of slowing down now that social media is still being dominated.
The news of Facebook’s Messanger app monthly users speaks to more than just its popularity amongst users – it’s solidifying Facebook’s stance in regards to other social media and communications apps. It was found that three apps – the core Facebook app, WhatsApp, and Messenger – are the top three communications apps for users.
These communications apps are rising in popularity because users are gravitating towards their easy use and convenience.
But what’s next for Faceook now that it’s dominating both social media and instant messaging industries? For starters, the company is looking towards evolving the platform to something new to keep users engaged – including the merging of other AI-focused functions, like sending money or ordering Ubers.
CEO Mark Zuckerburg himself has said that a product “doesn’t get interesting until it reaches 1 billion users“, there’s still a long way for the company to go if they want to push even further with taking over digital media. However, the next five years could prove paramount for the company as Zuckerberg says he believes multiple Facebook products will reach that kind of mass scale. And that kind of reach isn’t impossible, with Facebook’s push over the years.
