There are many situations when we find ourselves wanting (or needing) to make international phone calls, but maybe we’re held back by the necessary high costs of such calls. However, there’s no need to worry about those costs anymore as there are loads of free options available for making calls over the internet using apps. Check out some of the essential apps for making international calls below.

Google Voice

Google Voice offers pretty cheap international call rates, the option of personalizing your voicemail, transcription voicemail and even forward calls. The only problem is that this is an app that is mostly connected to USA. Versions for both iOS and Android exist, with GoVoice being the unofficial Google Voice option for the Windows Phone.

This is basically a connection of apps, based on what device type is used in order to make an international phone call. Obviously, this does include Android and iPhone. When you make an international call, you do not pay that much because of a local numbers function. This practically means that when you make a phone call, you may be allowed to use local pay rates.

We cannot make any list of cheaper international phone call options without mentioning Skype. This is basically the most popular of all the VoIP options available on the market. You can use the app for Windows Phone, iOS and Android in order to basically make free calls through an internet connection, although it is also possible that you call phone lines at really low rates. The only real problem is the unpredictability of Skype phone call audio quality.

NobelApp gives you access to the Nobelcom services plus various extra discounts and cheaper rates. You will appreciate the really low price call rates that are offered since they are among the lowest available on the market at the moment. You use the NobelApp to use the NobelCom international phone cards and the app is available for both iOS and Android.

We can say that Vonage is quite similar to the above mentioned Skype. The only difference is the lack of video chat. You gain access to some pretty cheap international phone call rates and there are even free calls that are available when you call other Vonage users. Vonage app is capable of using HD audio so you will have a really great call quality. There are also some interesting home plans that can be used in a combination with the mobile device.

Fring is a relatively new app in the industry but it is quickly gaining popularity. It is really similar to Skype as it offers basically the same features, including messaging. The only disadvantage is that the app is currently facing a lot of controversy as it has low performance and bugs do appear from time to time. However, we should keep an eye on the app as it is growing at a rate that is quite impressive at the moment.

Last on our list, VIber will give you access to some cheap phone call rates for international conversations as you use WiFi to connect with other Viber utilizers. You have an app that will scan your phone contacts. The Viber users are identified and you can call them 100 percent free. You would be able to use Viber on Android, Blackberry, Windows Phone and iOS.
