Today, NordVPN revealed that it was teaming up with security expert Troy Hunt as part of a new partnership program.
Hunt, perhaps best know for his data breach checking tool, haveibeenpwnd.com, is a well-respected figure in the online security industry, with many years experience, and currently a Regional Director for Microsoft.
The association will be the first of many, according to NordVPN. The company states it is looking to build an international team of experts to offer strategic advice to the company.

NordVPN’s Partnership Initiative
The partnering with security expert Troy Hunt is one of the first moves by NordVPN to assemble a large international team of experts to help the company hone its services and products.
“We are very excited to greet Troy Hunt as an advisor. Our product family is growing rapidly, and we have ambitious plans ahead. That’s why it’s important to have a team of professionals who can support us by providing their expert insights and strategic advice.” – NordSec co-founder Tom Okman
NordVPN’s search for partners doesn’t end with Hunt. The company has stated that it is looking to expand its team with advisors from different fields, including technology specialists, scholars, and those with backgrounds in digital privacy and security. NordVPN will consult this team on best practice, insights and trends.
NordVPN‘s VPN package is one of the most popular available, and offers military grade encryption and over 3,600 servers globally. It was also the first VPN to launch a bug bounty program.
NordSec, the company behind NordVPN, has expanded its suite of security services in recent years, with the company branching out into other security-led areas, such as the recent addition of Nord Pass. The password manager service launched at the end of 2019, offering a paid for tier, as well as a free one.
Other suites include NordLocker, a data storage solution, and NordVPN Teams, an enterprise-focused VPN.
Who is Troy Hunt?
Troy Hunt is well known name within the online security industry. The Microsoft Regional Director has worked tirelessly on web security for well over a decade, and has a long list of achievements to his name. These include revealing vulnerabilities in children’s ‘smart’ toys, which had led to the exposure of 820,000 customers records. He has also created training courses in online security, and runs hacking workshops.
However, arguably his most notable achievement is the website haveibeenpwned.com, established in 2013. The site was created by Hunt in order to serve as a central place where online users could check if their details had ever been compromised. It does this by checking the user’s entered email address against lists of data gathered from hacks and breaches. If there is a match, the site informs you of the email address that has been exposed, as well as the source of the breach. The site attracts around 160,000 visitors per day, and holds the information of over 10 billion hacked accounts.
On the partnership with NordVPN, Hunt said:
“I’m impressed with NordVPN’s product and their desire to engage with independent experts to drive further innovation. Their openness and transparency with the way they run their services combined with their vision for the future is a big part of what attracted me to the organisation.” – Troy Hunt
