Personal Plan

GoToMyPC’s Personal plan allows one user to have access to an unlimited number of machines. It’ll cost you $35 per month, per computer – so, while you can access an unlimited number of computers in theory, your wallet might have other ideas.

You’ll be heartened to hear that all your remote accessing will be protected by end-to-end encryption. Even better is that GoToMyPC has recently upgraded its encryption to 256-bit – the most secure version commonly used.

Users will be able to transfer files between machines, as well as sync files on the machines. You can also remote print using a machine in a different location. You’ll be able to remotely log in to using GoToMyPC’s mobile app.

And, finally, you’ll get 24/7 support over the phone, email, and live chat services. You can also take a look at GoToMyPC’s community support forums.

Pro Plan

The Pro plan allows between two and fifty users to access computers remotely. The plan costs $66 per month for two computers when billed annually, making the per computer cost slightly cheaper than the Personal plan.

You also get a load of extra features compared to the Personal plan. You’re able to have a central administrator to control the accounts and users on your plan, as well as centralized billing. You’re also able to switch users in and out easily.

Administrators will also be able to monitor remote access usage – handy if you want to make sure you’re getting value for money, or you want to see if your employees are actually working hard. Admins will also be able to generate reports on user activity.

Corporate Plan

The Corporate plan is designed for larger businesses and, as such, doesn’t have a fixed price. Instead, prices start from $140 per month for 5 computers, and GoToMyPC will give you a bespoke quote based on your requirements.

Again, you get more features compared to the Pro plan. You’ll get remote deployment, a dedicated account manager, and the ability to wake PCs on LAN connections. Your company will also be able to have more than one administrator, and you can manage different groups’ safety and feature sets.

Is GoToMyPC Free?

Sadly not – GoToMyPC doesn’t offer a free version.

However, GoToMyPC does offer a seven-day free trial, which can be useful if you want to get a feel for the software and its capabilities.

GoToMyPC Pros and Cons

GoToMyPC is a good choice for small-to-medium-sized businesses looking to help their employees work remotely. It’s not ideal for larger businesses, as the costs for adding extra host PCs can spiral quite quickly.

However, it does offer all the main features anyone would need to work from home – or anywhere else, for that matter – effectively.

Pros

  • Very secure
  • Speedy connections and no stuttering when in use
  • Simple pricing structure
  • File transfer and sync is useful

Cons

  • Can become expensive
  • Login process can become convoluted with unique passwords for each host PC

GoToMyPC Features

GoToMyPC has all the features any business would need to start remote working, from security to custom integrations. Some features include:

  • Easy installation
  • File transfer
  • Support multiple monitors
  • Audio compatibility
  • Full 256-bit end-to-end encryption
  • Screen look
  • Keyboard lock
  • Admin usage reports

Perhaps GoToMyPC’s most important feature is its easy installation. As a software package, installation is as easy as downloading an app. You can set it up on any PC, phone, or tablet in order to access your work PC from around the world.

GoToMyPC also has a range of functions that make working remotely as easy as working at your desk. For example, file transfer allows you to send documents between computers directly, without the need for emailing or WeTransfers. You can also remote print to your work PCs.

The service also supports multiple monitors – helpful if you’re working at home on a laptop, but are used to having two or three monitors for complex spreadsheets (or for discreetly watching TV). You’re also able to hear any music or audio from your work PC, making it useful for video calls and meetings. Plus, you can even cut, copy, and paste between your computers.

Behind the scenes, GoToMyPC has a range of features to keep both your computers safe and secure. It now offers full 256-bit end-to-end encryption, meaning that no one will be able to access the data being sent over your connections. You can also lock the keyboard and hide the screen on your remote PC to keep your work computer secure.

GoToMyPC gives admins usage reports, so they can keep track of the origin, time, type, and duration of connections. Plus, it works on iPads, iPhones, Android devices, and even Kindle Fire tablets.

Working at home?

GoToMyPC is the perfect solution for businesses looking to help their employees work remotely.

Technical Details

GoToMyPC doesn’t require any physical connections or cables to work. Instead, it runs on a software-as-a-service model, meaning that you sign up for GoToMyPC and then start installing it on your PCs and other devices. The company’s software and servers will help you connect to your PCs remotely – it’s as simple as that.

In fact, you don’t have to download a program – GoToMyPC also works when used in your browser.

As we mentioned above, GoToMyPC works on all manner of devices – from Windows laptops and PCs to tablets and phones. This makes it the perfect solution for workforces struggling to get around social distancing regulations, for example. It means anyone, anywhere can connect to their PC in the office without any downsides.

Of course, remote workers will need to become acquainted with the software, and GoToMyPC offers plenty of training options. It has a full knowledge base and a community forum to solve any problems, as well as a resource center to help staff find their way around.

If, however, your staff should run into any problems, you’ll be heartened to learn that GoToMyPC offers free 24/7 support across all of its pricing plans. You can speak to its support staff via live chat, email, or phone at any time of day.

Who is GoToMyPC for?

GoToMyPC works for businesses of any size. It can help small businesses avoid the overhead costs of office space, while also helping medium-sized and large businesses support the individual needs of their employees, such as childcare demands or working around doctors or dentists appointments.

GoToMyPC can also help freelance workers. Businesses that rely on freelancers to get stuff done can have staff remote-in to more powerful computers in the company’s office, for example. Individual freelancers can also work remotely with a laptop or even a tablet, while connecting to their main PCs at home.

Interface and Ease of Use

GoToMyPC has an easy and intuitive interface to help you get started when remoting in.

You’ll find the devices you can connect to only a click away, in a simple list. Plus, you’ll be able to access account information and settings on the side menu.

To get started logging in to a remote PC, you’ll need to head to gotomypc.com and click login. Then, simply sign in with your email address and password, and you’ll find all your available PCs – it’s really that easy.

However, you’ll then need to sign in to each PC separately – and each one requires a password. This won’t be a problem if you have a single computer, but if you have a handful, it might become more difficult.

Performance

While remote access software used to be slow, laggy, and grating, GoToMyPC is refreshingly speedy.

There’s no discernible lag when moving the mouse around, and you shouldn’t be stuck waiting for the host PC to enter your keystrokes.

GoToMyPC does offer a range of bandwidth settings, which can help you adjust how much data you’re able to send at once, but this should only be necessary on seriously sluggish connections.

Security

GoToMyPC has an impressive range of security features compared to a lot of remote access software options.

For starters, all connections have 256-bit end-to-end encryption. This means that any information you’re sending between the host and remote PC will be impossible to hack.

As we mentioned above, GoToMyPC also requires a password to log in to your account, as well as requiring that each host PC has its own password. This should help keep prying eyes away from any sensitive information on your work PC. What’s more, you can also set up two-factor authentication on each PC, meaning you’ll have to enter a verification code sent to your phone to log in.

Learn more about password managers here

The security options don’t end there, however. When you’re connected to a remote PC and need to step away, you’ll find that you can lock the remote keyboard and black-out the screen in order to stop any snoopers getting a look at your work. This might sound incidental, but if you’re working for a European company abroad, you’ll need to conform to GDPR regulations – one of which is making sure that PCs containing sensitive information are locked when not in use.

You can't put a price on security

GoToMyPC is the more secure way to access sensitive information remotely with 256-bit encryption and a robust password system.

Pro by GoTo

GoTo (formerly LogMeIn) is GoToMyPC’s parent company, but the two offer quite different options. GoTo's Pro gives an unlimited number of people access to two computers, while GoToMyPC offers multiple users access to multiple computers.

Pro by GoTo is useful for businesses that need to deliver managed IT services, for example. But GoToMyPC is more useful for remote workers. It’s not quite like comparing apples and oranges, but they’re different enough to make direct comparisons difficult.

TeamViewer

TeamViewer is more closely related to GoToMyPC, offering a number of users access to unlimited remote devices.

TeamViewer’s lower pricing tiers are slightly more expensive than GoToMyPC’s. However, as you start adding more users and computers, you’ll find that GoToMyPC becomes pretty expensive pretty quickly. TeamViewer is probably a better option for larger businesses than GoToMyPC.

AnyDesk

AnyDesk offers similar remote access features to GoToMyPC. However, its pricing model is quite different.

AnyDesk is completely free for personal use, which means that anyone will be able to connect one of their PCs remotely – so long as they aren’t using it for work purposes.

Aside from the free version, AnyDesk’s Lite package starts from $129 per year, and offers the basics of remote access to one user. From there, the prices scale quite quickly to the feature-laden Power plan, which allows an unlimited number of sessions and connections to multiple PCs.

GoToMyPC FAQs

Nope, it’s not a VPN. VPNs offer secure and private connections to the internet by routing your traffic through different servers around the world. GoToMyPC, while secure, only offers a connection to a remote PC – it won’t keep your remote PC safe while using an unsecured WiFi network in a coffee shop, for example.

It’s very safe. The connection between your remote PC and the host PC is covered by 256-bit encryption – meaning that no one will be able to see the data you’re sending. It also requires passwords to log in to each host PC, and offers two-factor authentication.

Yes – with its wake-on-LAN feature, a remote PC can boot up a switched off PC using GoToMyPC. However, you’ll need to have set-up the PC on GoToMyPC’s system already. Plus, Wake-on-LAN is only available on GoToMyPC’s most expensive Corporate plan.

Getting started is simple. You’ll need to sign up for a pricing plan, and then install the GoToMyPC shortcut. In fact, you can even access the program in your web browser, so you won’t need to install anything.

Sadly not. At the moment, GoToMyPC doesn’t work with Chromebooks – you’ll need a Windows laptop or desktop, MacOS device, iPad or iPhone, or an Android phone or tablet.
