How to Find a Remote Job on X/Twitter: A Step-by-Step Guide

The controversial social media app has added a lot of new features over the years, including a job searching tool.

Gainful employment likely isn’t the first thing you think of when it comes to X/Twitter, but the controversial social media platform has become more and more functional over the years, now offering job hunting tools for your remote work aspirations.

Ever since Elon Musk took over Twitter, changed the name, and vowed to turn it in the “everything” app, the social media platform has seen a wave of new features aimed at providing a wide range of services beyond trolling brand accounts.

X/Twitter even offers a job search platform directly in the interface, with a simple Job tab appearing on the mobile app and website, and it can help you find a remote job in 2024.

How to Find Remote Jobs with X/Twitter

If you haven’t had the pleasure of exploring the nooks and crannies of the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, you might not have even realized that X offers job hunting features. Fortunately, we’re here to walk you through the simple process of starting your remote job hunt on the right foot!

Here’s a simple step-by-step guide to help you get started with finding a remote job on X on the website:

  • Head on over to X.com
  • Click on the Jobs tab on the left side of the screen
  • Type in the type of job you’re looking for
  • Click on the Location type filter
  • Select Remote or Hybrid and click Apply
  • Find a job that fits your experience and click Apply Now

X/Twitter can also provide you with job recommendations by adding at least one specific job title and location (in this case, “Remote”) to your preferences. This will provide you with a tailored list of about 10 roles to choose from that you can refresh for more at any time.

Is Job Hunting on X Reliable?

Finding a job likely isn’t the first thing you think of when it comes to X. The social media platform has become increasingly controversial for everything from hate speech to misinformation, largely fueled by its acquisition by Elon Musk in 2023.

That doesn’t mean the jobs aren’t any less real or reliable, though. Many users have noted that they’ve been hired from the platform, with many freelance positions also available to apply for.

Currently, there are more than 1.5 million jobs on the X platform, according to a tweet from the X Hiring account, the official account for the platform.

Still, there are obviously other — perhaps better — options when it comes to finding a remote job. LinkedIn, for example, boasts 15 million jobs on the platform, with other options like Indeed and ZipRecruiter offering far more than a million as well. On top of that, they offer more features, like resume building and AI-powered job suggestions, making X seem like less of a viable first choice.

X: The Everything App?

In 2022, Twitter was acquired by Elon Musk, who eventually changed the name to X. The rebrand was part of a larger plan to turn the social media platform into the “everything app,” which could house a wide range of functionalities, like payments, entertainment, and yes, job searching.

While X Payments functionality seems to be on the horizon, and X is nothing if not entertaining, this “everything” app functionality hasn’t quite arrived on the platform. Sure, the Grok chatbot is making some waves, but given its status as a paid tool in a world of free AI solutions, it’s safe to say it will always be second fiddle at best.

Job searching does represent a move in the right direction, though, bolstering the overall offering of X to provide something beyond social media. But given the state of the platform, it’s safe to say the applications might not come pouring in.
