This morning, the New York, NY-based on-demand laundry and dry-cleaning service, Cleanly, announced its expansion into Brooklyn. Starting today, those hoping to utilize the Y Combinator-backed company’s service can now do so from eight Brooklyn neighborhoods: Williamsburg, Brooklyn Heights, Park Slope, Fort Greene, Boerum Hill, Cobble Hill, DUMBO, and Downtown Brooklyn.
Similar to the already-popular FlyCleaners, users simply enter a time and day when they’d like Cleanly to pick up their clothes. On the date and time of that appointment, users simply have to make sure they’re available to hand over their laundry and dry-cleaning to Cleanly’s valet. The service offers a 24-hour (or less) turnaround time – 36 hours for dry-cleaning.
“I came up with the idea of Cleanly while living in Park Slope after hauling laundry five flights down the stairs after a 10-hour day of work” said Cleanly cofounder Tom Harari in a statement “I wanted to create something magical for busy professionals and parents to outsource this incredibly time consuming task and have time for the more important things in life – to do the things they love.”
The expansion into Brooklyn is good news for those whose residence area currently isn’t covered by FlyCleaners. With the expansion, areas like Park Slope and Brooklyn Heights will now be able to use on-demand laundry and dry-cleaning services – areas currently not covered by FlyCleaners.
More importantly, though, Cleanly’s expansion is much welcome news for those wanting an alternative to FlyCleaners. While convenient, FlyCleaners has notoriously become a source of headaches for some – from complaints regarding customer service to complete loss of clothing, FlyCleaners has managed to earn itself a 2-star rating on Yelp. Cleanly, on the other hand, has a 4.5-star rating on Yelp; since launching in Manhattan in January, users have overwhelmingly lauded the service as one of the best laundry services (on-demand or otherwise).
This past May, Cleanly raised a $2.3 million seed round from investors including Ludlow Ventures, Garry Tan, Paul Buchheit, Alexis Ohanian, Joe Montana, 500 Startups, Funders Club, Soma Capital, Altair Capital, and Y Combinator. Cleanly has future plans to expand its on-demand laundry service to other NYC markets, including Queens, Hoboken, and Quens, as well as other cities.
