Try Products Before you Buy With Gorilly

Try before you buy: it’s a mantra that serves us well, but there aren’t a lot of places you can put it into effect. Sure, you can test drive a car, but how often can you test drive a custom, handcrafted piece of furniture?

Gorilly, the self-described Airbnb for retail, has long been committed to helping shoppers try out products before they commit the money to actually purchase them. To date they have signed on ten different brands, and they recently announced the addition of three more.

The three they just signed are:

  • Semigood Design: They design and manufacture every piece of furniture they have by hand in a Seattle factory. The furniture is made to order, which creates an intimate and unique experience in the customization process.
  • Oru Kayak: Inspired by recent advances in origami, this sea-worthy, folding kayak not only screams design but is also manufactured locally.
  • Ethan Abramson: Their fine-crafted furniture is made in America, environmentally conscious, and the company is a member of the 1% for the Planet. Their pieces have been featured in both the Wall Street Journal and New York Magazine.

The way the platform works is pretty simple and effectively transforms any location into a showroom. People who own products from one of the participating manufacturers list what they want to showroom on Gorilly – the team calls them Product Gorillys.

From there the shoppers can search products near them and connect with the Product Gorilly who has it to meet and discuss it. It’s a win-win because the shopper gets a discount code for their order and the Product Gorilly gets a commission for the resulting sale.

Throughout it all the team managing Gorilly has clung to the driving philosophy to revolutionize the concept of the showroom and give shoppers a way to see and feel the product in person. This facilitation of “showrooming” products, the team believes, leads to a smarter purchase by eliminating expense, hassle, and fear of buying a product you won’t love.
