How to Grab the Attention of Influencers in Any Niche

With so much clutter online going on, it can be a bit of a struggle to get the attention of influencers in your niche.

Whether you are looking to promote a product, highlight a service to an existing captivate audience, or secure a guest post, it all comes back to getting that all-important “yes, send it over” response to your pitch.

But what if you could shortcut the process? What if there was an easier way to pique the interest of influencers in your niche? How about if you could grab the attention of a whole bunch of influencers in your niche at the same time?

The great news is that is certainly can be done!

First, let’s look at three ways to grab the attention of influencers through smart content creation.


How to Get Influencer Attention

Option#1: Link to them!

This part is simple! You’re already going to the effort of creating fantastic content, so take just a couple extra minutes per article and ensure that you link out to at least two influencers in your niche from every article.

Option #2: Promote them!

You are probably familiar with the concept of Top Lists. It’s where you create a list of people, places or things and use a top list as the structure for your article. Here's a great fitness blog example to follow as a template.

Top lists are easy to read and highly shareable, but how can you use Top Lists to gain the attention of influencers?

You just include them in a list!

  • Run a technology blog? Feature a list of the top technology bloggers.
  • Run a mommy blog? Feature a list of the top mommy bloggers.
  • Run a fitness blog? Highlight all the best fitness bloggers in your niche.

You get the point.

It’s really not that hard to create a Top List like this; Just create and article with an image of the blog or blogger, a brief explanation of why they ROCK and a link to their blog. That’s it!

The best part about these lists is that they allow you to build a connection with a number of bloggers at the same time. The articles often attract plenty of social activity, even if your blog is quite new. And they are enjoyable to put together too; highlighting other people’s work is fun!

Option #3: Expert Round-Ups (ERAs)

These are really hot right now (perhaps a little over-used which is why I use them sparingly). The idea is to come up with a question or concept to build an article around and then reach out to experts in the given niche and have them provide their tips or advice.

ERAs can drive some huge spikes in traffic and plenty of social sharing because they end up being fantastic pieces of content. Take a look at the killer round-up article that Codrut Turcanu put together for the EmpireFlippers team. Over 350 social shares and that particular article is not even well optimized for social sharing.

In addition to the EmpireFlippers example, below are three examples of just how much social traction and noise they can create, even when executed on relatively narrow sites.

Some sites perform better on Facebook and Pinterest, like this baking round-up on with well over 3500 social shares between those two platforms.

This example within the professional niche of careers demonstrates that you can get some handy traction and exposure within LinkedIn (over 600 shares at the time of writing).

Can you get traction on Twitter? Sure can; just check out this example with well over 400 tweets.

So one of the benefits that ERAs have over Top Lists and simply linking out to influencers is that they will most likely drive social media activity and traffic to the bloggers you feature.

Clearly, ERAs take a bit of coordination and organisation, but they can pay you back big time with traffic and social buzz that delivers value to the influencers that you feature.


Promoting your handy work:

Once you have created an article with links to influencers, created a Top List or compiled your Expert Round-Up Article, the final step to making it all count is letting the influencers know!

This doesn’t need to be too complicated; just email them to let them know you featured them in an article.

I usually go one of two ways:


Option 1 is the low-key option

Email the contact something like this…

“Hi {blogger name} It’s {your name} from {your blog}.

Just a quick email to let you know that I featured you in my list of the Top {insert relevant details of the top list}

Here's the article > {insert relevant details of the top list}

I really hope it delivers some new visitors to your site and I look forward to staying connected!”


Option 2 is a little more up-front

Email them something like this…

“Hi {blogger name} It’s {your name} from {your blog}.

Just a quick email to let you know that I featured you in my list of the Top {insert relevant details of the top list}

Here's the article > {insert relevant details of the top list}

I really hope it delivers some new visitors to your site :-)
