Sean Fee, managing partner at Mist Media, previous CCO of MetaMedia, and jack-of-all-trades has jumped into the gaming industry with social networking site Player.me. It is currently billed as “the best way to show off your gaming skills, connect with other gamers and grow your fanbase.” It seems the site has lived up to its reputation, because gamers from all over the community and non-gamers alike have flocked to this new platform.
Player.me offers its users a simplified and beautiful interface with features such as large cover pictures to show off the scenery of your newest game or achievements, the ability to link to other social media sites (Steam, Facebook, Twitter, etc), promote your finds, and even pull YouTube videos and saved streams from popular streaming site Twitch. Just like any other social networking site, you can follow other people within the community or discover new content that’s aggregated by time. This ensures that everyone who posts (regardless of how little) has a shot at gaining some attention from their fellow gamers.
Despite being in a private beta, the startup has attracted attention from popular gamers and streamers such as HackyPixelz and 8gaming. It also recently hit its one millionth post, and Player.me CTO, staff, and developers are very active within the community.
Fee will be aiming for seed funding in the future and has already reached out to game developers to offer incentives to its user base. He is also looking into affiliate sales within the gaming community to raise funds, but has enough cash on hand to continue operations for the time being.
