Even for tech-savvy users, building a website from scratch can be a daunting task. From mastering its design to perfecting its functionality, there are lots of steps involved in creating a high-performing site. The good news? Some of the best website builders use AI to streamline the web creation process for you – dramatically reducing the time and effort required to build a site.
Working in a similar way to ChatGPT, AI website builders create custom websites based on your needs – and lots even assist with content and image generation too. After testing the best, I can confidently say that Wix is the best AI website builder. Wix’s Artificial Design Intelligence platform created an entire site structure for me based on a few prompts I provided during setup.
Hostinger is a great AI builder though. Its ability to design entire pages, generate copy, and even custom logos enriched my user experience significantly – all for as little as $2.99 per month – makes it an excellent option for those with smaller budgets. In this guide, I’ll take you through the best AI website builders currently available, and whether they’re really worth using.
The Best AI Website Builders in 2024
In 2024, there are several ways to build a website with AI. However, they all have their own advantages and disadvantages, and provide users with varying levels of control/assistance during the building process.
As I mentioned, I found Wix had the smoothest setup process and presented me with the best suite of editing tools to make the changes I needed to make afterward. However, Hostinger’s AI logo generator and copy assistance will appeal to people who need a cheap, lightweight solution. Here are our top six…
- Wix – The best AI website builder overall, with an in-built ChatGPT function
- Hostinger – Best for logo and copy generation
- Shopify – Building an online store with AI
- Jimdo – Excellently detailed, customizable setup
- 10Web – Great for agencies managing multiple websites
- Framer – Easy to use, simple processes
- Squarespace – Best for creative businesses
1. Wix
- Best for: Overall AI capabilities, with ChatGPT available inside
- Price From: $17 per month (Light plan)
- Free plan? Yes
Pros
- Generates 3 website template options with Wix ADI
- Excellent post-setup design functionalities
- AI text and image generators
- Built-in ChatGPT capabilities
- Alternative Layouts tool
- AI generate product descriptions
Cons
- Paid plans are expensive compared to competitors
- No copy generation during Wix ADI set up
- No AI logo generator
Wix’s top AI features
- Wix Artificial Design Intelligence (ADI)
- Wix Site Generator
- Wix Studio
- AI Text Creator
- AI Image Creator
- AI Meta Tag Creator
Wix ADI will help you set up your website in minutes. Once this is done, Wix has a myriad of different AI tools that will make building out your site content and enhancing the design of your pages a breeze.
To use Wix’s Artificial Design Intelligence (ADI), all you have to do is create a Wix account, go through the setup process, and click “design your website” in the top right-hand corner.
This will take you to a decision screen, and you’ll have to select the “let Wix build the website for you” option. From there, you can start adding pages that Wix suggests for you. As I told Wix I wanted to make a blog during setup, the AI suggested pages common to most blogs (such as an “About” section) for us:
Adding pages suggested by Wix ADI (Source: Tech.co)
Unlike Framer AI, which we’ll discuss later, Wix ADI actually lets you choose between 3 different designs it mocks up for you during the setup process (pictured below). Out of the AI website builders I tested, I found Wix’s designs were the most aesthetically pleasing and professional-looking by some margin.
Site designs suggested by Wix ADI (Source: Tech.co)
Setup is shorter and not quite as detailed as 10Web, but the key advantage of Wix is that once you do get set up, you’ve got access to so many AI tools.
An AI image creator is available, and Wix harnesses the powers of artificial intelligence to make educated suggestions on your site design with the Alternative Layouts tool. Like Shopify Magic (more on this later) you can also autogenerate product descriptions for items you’re selling if you’ve built an online store.
If you’re looking to turbocharge your site’s SEO, Wix also recently launched an AI meta tag creator which lets you automate title tags and meta descriptions suggested on your site’s content. However, this feature is currently only available to Wix Premium users.
What’s more, ChatGPT is now available inside Wix, and the AI text generator it powers makes up for the lack of copy-generation options available during the initial stages. You can also use it to generate author bios for writers as well as the copy for all the inner pages of your site.
The lesser-known AI website builders on the market simply can’t compete with Wix. They don’t have the superior design functionality offered by Wix, easy-to-use drag-and-drop interface, or gallery full of free images:
Adding images to our recently-generated Wix website (Source: Wix.com)
And further, they certainly don’t have an AI website builder like the one below:
Wix’s AI website generator
After being teased last year, Wix now has a fully-fledged AI site generator that will build you a website off even less information than Wix ADI will. It’s a truly impressive feature. It works in the same way ChatGPT does, but only for website building. All you need is a prompt:
Prompting Wix to create a blog for me. Image: Tech.co
With no other extra information, Wix generated a fantastic-looking website, which would have taken me hours to design myself. Although some of the images weren’t as burger-focused as I quite wanted, the page’s design looks really cohesive:

Wix Studio
Wix also released Wix Studio in August, a web creation and development platform that has coding capabilities is able to manage multiple sites.
While Wix ADI is largely geared towards newcomers to the website-building world, Wix Studio’s target market is more experienced web designers and developers.
Within Wix Studio, there are responsive AI tools that can generate layouts that users will be able to make changes to intuitively and effortlessly. In Wix’s words, website developers will be able to “create more intricate relationships between elements” and “optimize sections with the click of a button”.

Also included is an AI coding assistant, so users can code custom components or create full-stack solutions. Wix says it’ll help developers create cleaner code and uncover errors that need amending. You’ll also be able to use this feature to streamline your site’s shipping operations.
If you want to use Wix Studio right now, you’ll need to join a waitlist, as the product is yet to be released to the general public.
Wix is the best website builder I’ve tested here at Tech.co, edging out tough competition from Squarespace to take the top spot on our most recent round of testing – so it’s no surprise that its AI tools are top-notch too.

2. Hostinger
- Best for: Logo and copy generation
- Price From: $2.99 per month (one plan available)
- Free plan? No
Pros
- Very affordable platform compared to other options
- Unique logo generator to improve branding
- Great for generating copy with AI-powered tools
- Duplicate content in other languages
Cons
- No app store for third party integrations
- Not many color options to choose from in design editor
- Ecommerce functionality reserved for more expensive plans
What are Hostinger’s top AI features?
- AI Website Generator
- AI Writer
- AI Logo Maker
- AI Heatmap
Hostinger proved to be our second favorite option for AI website building. As you can see from the image below, the initial setup was just a case of entering your brand name, the type of website you want to create, and a short description to keep the AI on the right track:
Providing Hostinger with a short description of our test website (Source: Hostinger.com)
Like Wix, Hostinger gives you three different layouts to choose from when you set up your website using its AI website builder – but unlike Wix, it’ll actually generate a lot of relevant copy for you during set up, which has the potential to save you a lot of time. That being said, Wix has other options for doing this.

This will be a pro or a con depending on how picky you are with your website copy – but of course, you can always edit it later if you’re not happy with it, and it’s often easier to do that than simply start writing from scratch. However you choose to write your website copy, Hostinger will automatically duplicate it into different languages, increasing the size of the audience you can reach.
Another great thing about Hostinger is the fact that it will generate a free AI logo for your site for you – which isn’t a common feature AI website builders offer.

Hostinger also offers an AI writing tool that lets users generate compelling copy tailored to their site’s district needs, and a unique AI heatmap functionality that displays how different website elements capture the attention of visitors.
The only downside, at least compared to Wix, is that Hostinger doesn’t have as many design features, functionalities, or integrations to take advantage of once you’ve built the basic version of your website. It’s great if you’re just starting out, however, and the idea of designing a logo for your brand is an unfamiliar process.
3. Shopify
- Best for: Building an online store with AI
- Price From: $29 per month (Basic plan)
- Free plan? No
Pros
- Helpful and predictive website building experience
- Massive app selection for unlimited customizability
- Shopify Magic AI tool generates product descriptions
- Shopify Sidekick (AI assistant) waitlist is now open
Cons
- Limited customization options
- Few built-in features
- Apps cost extra
- High transaction fee without Shopify Payments
What are Shopify’s top AI features?
- AI Product Descriptions (Shopify Magic)
- AI Copywriting (Shopify Magic)
- AI Commerce Assistant (Shopify Sidekick)
- AI Image Editor (Winter 2024 rollout)
- AI Semantic Search Tool (Winter 2024 rollout)
Although Shopify isn’t quite an AI website builder in the same way the other providers on this list are, it’s beginning to roll out a range of useful AI tools that are definitely worth checking out. Although it’s quite pricey, if you’re planning to build an online store, there’s really no better choice available than Shopify.
Shopify Magic is a suite of AI tools that Shopify, one of the best website builders for ecommerce, launched in April of this year. While Shopify doesn’t have a Wix ADI alternative, Shopify Magic is a very useful tool for budding ecommerce sellers.
The most useful thing it does is auto-generate product descriptions, so the more products you have listed on your store, the more time you’ll save. However, it can also help with blog posts, generating compelling email subject lines and personalized FAQs for your online store. Prior to the release of Shopify Magic, these kinds of tasks – ones which are necessary if you want to drive traffic to your online store – would require hours of time, energy, and human effort.
If you’re thinking of building an online store and want to try out Shopify Magic, now’s the time to do it – you can sign up for just $1 for your first month after a 3-day trial, which is very good value for money for an ecommerce platform as capable as this one.
On top of this, Shopify recently launched a new tool called Shopify Sidekick, the platform’s very own “personal ecommerce assistant”, which can respond to prompts like ChatGPT and Claude.
Along with helping you redesign your online store, Shopify Sidekick is able to reply to live chat queries posed by customers, generate even more content for your score, create discount codes, and carry out tedious housekeeping tasks. Sidekick can also quickly compile data based on the sales you’re generating and collate useful information such as your top-selling products.
In its Winter 2024 edition, Shopify added more customer-facing AI tools. One is a semantic search tool for online stores that analyzes buyer intent to provide personalized results, rather than just keyword matching like lots of internal search website search tools do. Also announced in its winter rollout was an AI image editor to refine and improve product images.
Over the years, before Shopify had native AI tools like Shopify Magic, online sellers wanting to harness the power of artificial intelligence would have to turn to apps and integrations available on the Shopify app store.
Now, Shopify also has an even wider range of AI-powered apps on its app store, including Plumy, which has over 14 AI features including SEO, article writing, and language translation tools. AI stylists, on the other hand, is a plug-in for virtual try-on experiences, predicting the best sizes for customers across multiple brands. What’s more, Shopify is now harnessing AI to summarize and distill reviews so that creators can be more confident about the apps they’re downloading.
4. Jimdo
- Best for: Detailed, customizable setup
- Price From: $9 per month (Start plan)
- Free plan? Yes
Pros
- Custom color palette generator
- Highly detailed, AI-Assisted set up for online stores
- Dedicated mobile editor view
Cons
- No real blog functionality
- No internal marketing capabilities
- More limited than other web builders after AI set up finished
What are Jimdo’s top AI features?
- Jimdo Dolphin Website Builder
- AI Supported Setup
- Custom AI Color Palettes
Jimdo is one of the best AI website builders, with cheaper paid plans than the likes of Wix, Squarespace, and GoDaddy.
When I tested its AI website-building function, Jimdo Dolphin, I was first presented with a much larger list of businesses to choose from during setup than some of the other AI website builders on this list, and on the whole, Jimdo’s setup was among the most detailed.
Jimdo will then ask you for your website’s goals, so it knows what elements of site architecture you’ll need. I selected the “sell online” option, so it went on to ask me about the types of products I’d like to sell, whether I had a physical store, and whether I have a social media presence:
Question 7 of Jimdo’s AI-assisted setup process (Source: Jimdo.com)
As you can see from the image above, Jimdo provides an explanation as to why it’s asking you these different questions during setup – which is useful for context and helped me make decisions about the bits I wanted to skip, streamlining the process even further.
Two useful Jimdo features are the ability to generate your own, custom color palette (which is pretty unique), which can then be automatically applied across the site, and the fact it asked me whether I wanted to collect pictures from social media to use on our site.

You’ll appreciate the latter feature if you already have some branded imagery you’d like to use or pictures of your staff team, physical store or office building.
While Jimdo’s AI design features are slightly less sophisticated than those offered by Squarespace, the tool gives users a great free way to edit the look of their site in fewer steps than it would take with a manual builder.
5. 10Web
- Best for: Agencies and organizations building multiple websites
- Price from: $20 per month (Personal plan)
- Free Plan? No
Pros
- Choice between formal/informal copy tone
- AI assistant and business name generator available
- 24/7 live chat support
Cons
- Editing requires a paid plan
- Paid plans are quite expensive
What are 10Web’s top AI features?
- AI site builder
- AI Web Conversion
- AI Migration Service
10Web is an AI website builder that will best suit businesses looking to build one or more websites and then manage them in the same place.
The setup process involves inputting the type of website you’d like to make, along with the number of websites you own/manage (10Web also provides AI web conversion and migration services).
AI-generated designs provided by 10Web during set up (Source: Tech.co)
10Web’s setup was a breeze, but a lot more detailed than the likes of Framer AI. Overall, there is a lot more initial information that needs to be entered about your site before 10Web will generate anything for you. However, it all felt very tailored to the use case I selected.
one thing I thought was a nice touch was that 10Web asked me about the tone I’d like our content to be written in. This will depend entirely on your target audience – and the only options are “formal” or “informal” – but again, it’s a level of detail not all AI website builders offer. The mock service descriptions I asked it to generate below sound pretty professional, too:
10Web’s AI-generated site, informed by our test prompts (Source: Tech.co)
The big downside with 10Web is that you have to sign up for one of its paid plans if you’d like to edit your website. The Personal plan is priced at $20 per month when billed annually, which puts it up there with many top-of-the-range website builders, while the Premium plan is available from $24 per month and will let you manage 3 websites.
Larger companies or agencies that want to manage 10 websites with increased storage and priority support should opt for the $85 per month Agency plan.
Pros
- Simple, easy-to-navigate interface
- AI can generate individual pages
- Shows you desktop, mobile and tablet views simultaneously
Cons
- Not all AI-generated copy sounded good
- Page templates more basic than Wix
- AI can become overwhelmed by requests
What are Framer AI’s top AI features?
- AI copy Rewriting
- Custom AI Color Pallets
- AI Design Suggestions
Framer AI is an easy-to-use, free AI website builder that’s definitely worth trying out if your mind isn’t already set on another provider. Its AI was surprisingly responsive, able to generate entire pages based on very basic prompts – in our case, I asked it to make a blog about Mexican cuisine.
The simple interface meant it was also really easy to just edit anything I didn’t quite like without much hassle at all. It was also really easy to link between pages on the website.

Another thing I liked about Framer is the way it generated a template for each page individually, with a prompt – which some AI website builders don’t do. Framer AI also showed me immediately how it would look on desktop, mobile, and tablet, which will help users to ensure the aspect ratios are correct on all of the devices that people use.

However, there was one page I wasn’t quite happy with so I asked Framer to regenerate it – but this led to an error message saying I was “asking too much of OpenAI” and to give it a minute before attempting another request. I didn’t encounter this problem with Wix, which is a lot more powerful.
Overall, Framer AI is a little bit more basic – and not quite as useful – as Wix, Hostinger, or Jimdo. But for a free AI website builder, it can provide you with a great foundation – and lots of inspiration – during the initial setup process.
Pros
- Easiest website builder to use across our research
- Plenty of content-focused features for blogging
- Integrates with Acuity for booking and appointments
Cons
- Limited language support for international businesses
- AI site builder creates fairly generic output
- Performed poorly on-site speed tests in our research
What are Squarespace’s top AI features?
- AI content generation
- Design Intelligence
- SEO site descriptions
Squarespace is an extremely user-friendly website builder that’s capable of building well-designed and professional sites. Compared to other leading providers like Wix and Shopify, Squarespace was a bit late to adopt AI, but its AI builder, Blueprint AI, gives them a run for their money.
Squarespace Blueprint asked me seven questions before creating my AI site, including what pages I’d like to add to my site. Source: Tech.co testing
Blueprint AI asks you questions about your business goals, brand, and industry, before offering useful recommendations and a real-time preview of your website which you’re able to make further edits to. Squarespace’s penchant for design can be seen in its AI builder too, due to the integration of Design Intelligence – a mix of AI-powered tools and one-click design options designed to make it easier for users to make a beautiful website.
Squarespace Blueprint let me set a site quickly, and its AI text feature generated copy to get the ball rolling. Source: Tech.co user testing
Squarespace Intelligence makes it easy for users with little tech experience to make a good-looking site. However, when I tested out Squarespace’s AI builder I found that the end results always ended up looking fairly generic and similar to each other. While you are able to edit the site further to suit your preferences, Squarespace is less capable than alternatives like Wix and Hostinger at making super unique websites off the bat.
Also, unlike builders like Wix and Hostinger, Squarespace doesn’t have an AI image generator. This means that if you’re looking to create product or background images using artificial intelligence you’ll have to do so with an external tool.
Do You Really Need an AI Website Builder?
There are definitely pros and cons to using an AI website builder. The biggest pro is cutting down the time it takes you to set your website up. Some AI website builders will literally shave hours – if not days – off your set-up time, depending on the goals and aims of your site. If you just want to get up and running quickly, then using an AI website builder like Wix definitely worth exploring.
Another big advantage of using an AI website builder is how easy it is to build a professional-looking website. If you’re a website-building newbie and looking for a website builder that suits beginners, AI website builders will be easier to get to grips with than learning all the ins and outs of building a website independently, and far easier than building a WordPress site from scratch.
Of course, the key disadvantage of using an AI website builder is having limited customization at the start of your website-building journey, which you’ll lose by handing over full responsibility for much of the design – and in some cases the copy – to your website builder.
Granted, the likes of Wix and Hostinger give their users template options to choose from, but it’s a much narrower remit of choice than you’d have if you started building your website from scratch yourself.
If you have a highly specific idea of what you want your site to look like you may find using AI to set up your website just means you’ll have to make lots of changes afterward.
What is the best AI tool to create a website?
The best AI tool for creating a website is Wix, which can generate a website in a few minutes based on some prompts and information about what you want it to be about. After that, you can use Wix’s unrivaled suite of editing tools to add your own personal touch to the foundation it provides you with.
How We Compared The Best AI Website Builders
At Tech.co, I conduct independent, product-led research into all of the verticals I write about, including website builders. After we’ve identified the best products on the market, I put them through a rigorous testing process in order to assess their ease of use, customer support services, feature offerings, design functionalities, SEO support, and overall value for money.
Out of the website builders we’ve tested so far, we’ve selected the six best providers with artificial intelligence capabilities to include in this head-to-head comparison.
Artificial intelligence capabilities are a relatively new addition to some website builders and are designed to speed up the setup process and make your life easier. So, we’ve focused our analysis on how easy they are to use, the quality of what they produced, and how much time their end product actually saved us.
Although I do have commercial partnerships with some of the providers I write about, it’s our independent research allows us to stay editorially independent.
Verdict: What is the Best AI Website Builder?
The best AI website builder I’ve tried is Wix. Not only did I find it incredibly easy to use – it requires very few prompts to get started – but on top of that, it gave me the best range of slick-looking designs to choose from, and the option to generate a whole range of specific pages. Plus, it’s the only AI website builder that’s integrated true, ChatGPT-like capabilities into its software, such as the site generator.
The other big advantage to using Wix is that you’ll get access to the tools included in one of the most capable website builders on the market. I found that this really made the difference once I took back control from Wix ADI and started to make tweaks of our own. To top it all off, you can access the platform for free for 14 days after going through the AI-facilitated setup.
However, I think Hostinger’s AI website builder will serve businesses starting from the ground up and wanting to get going quickly just fine, thanks to unique features like a logo builder. I found the copy it generated was pretty well written too – but Wix still retains the top spot, and is a better AI website builder overall.
