Wix Restaurants is made up of three different core apps: Menus, Orders, and Table Reservations, as well as additional integrations from its app store. With Wix Restaurants, users can showcase everything that their business has to offer with a professional menu, as well as implement online ordering, takeaway, and table booking.

The Online Ordering app lets you accept gift cards, issue refunds, collect payments through multiple methods, generate invoices, and track orders. Unfortunately, you’re not able to manage a business with multiple locations, so multi-venue franchises might want to look elsewhere.

What’s new with Wix?

Wix regularly introduces updates to its service, with a number of new features currently in “pre-launch” and set to land in Q2 this year. Among them, you’ll soon be able to access support for POS devices at multiple locations, which is super handy for keeping your multiple venues ticking along.

In Q3, it will soon be possible for Wix users to offer waitlists to their end customers. For high-end restaurants, this is a great way of offering as many customers as possible the chance to experience what you have to offer.

While Wix is certainly our top pick for website builders, we must admit that Squarespace gives it a run for its money. While it may not offer as many website themes as Wix, the popular website builder boasts some of the most beautiful templates in the industry, allowing for an aesthetically pleasing experience for users on every page.

It also provides the seamless ability to scale with your business, with robust analytics and marketing features in email and social media to grow your restaurant’s customer base.

Squarespace is undoubtedly the most user-friendly website builder on the market. It’s clearly committed to providing users with a stripped-back, intuitive interface that’s extremely easy to navigate. Due to its solid user experience, Squarespace will be a great choice for restaurants that are building a website for the first time.

Like Wix, Squarespace has its own dedicated website-building platform for restaurants, kitted out with menu management software, table reservation options, and online ordering integrations.

However, unlike Wix, which charges a flat-rate fee per order for its integration with delivery service Door Dash, Squarespace’s ChowNow integration starts at $129 per month – an entry fee that might be steep for smaller delivery businesses.

While the templates are beautiful, they aren’t as easy to customize as the likes of Wix, which means you’re kind of stuck with what you get. Fortunately, in this case, what you get is a beautiful website design, so that’s not a huge problem. Site speed also leaves a bit to be desired, but overall, we’d still highly recommend Squarespace for your restaurant.

Squarespace pricing

Squarespace also offers four different pricing plans, each with varying features depending on price. In this section, I’ll go through each one in turn.

Basic plan ($16/month)

The first plan is aimed at individuals looking to get a website going, which means that it’s not necessarily ideal for a restaurant, where business often moves fast. What’s more, it lacks some pretty key features, including a lack of professional email and no advanced analytics.

Core plan ($23/month)

There’s a pretty big step up from the Basic plan to the Core plan. At this tier, you’ll get access to advanced website analytics, a free professional email for one year, and a number of ecommerce features, including Google Shopping access, Facebook and Instagram advertising and insights, shipping labels, and more.

Plus plan ($39/month)

There’s not a huge amount of difference between this plan and the previous one. You’ll get marginally lower credit card processing fees (2.7% + 30¢ vs 2.9% + 30¢), and higher limits on video hosting and storage. Otherwise, the differences are pretty negligible.

Advanced plan ($99/month)

It’s a pretty similar story with the Advanced plan. At this level, you’ll incur lower fees per transaction, which is great for delis and coffee shops that sell some of their products online. You’ll also get a 0% transaction fee for digital content and memberships, great news for businesses that operate on a subscription basis, such as a monthly coffee service.

Squarespace does not offer a free plan, but it does offer a 14-day free trial to give users a taste of the software before they invest.

Shopify is an ecommerce website builder that’s perfectly suited to restaurants that handle high volumes of orders. While lots of website builders, like Wix and Squarespace, are designed with the needs of small businesses in mind, Shopify will be able to meet the needs of established, chain restaurants with ease due to its advanced delivery, tax, and internationalization features, multi-location management tools, and seamless ecommerce integrations.

If you manage a large restaurant that delivers food or sells products like merchandise or gift cards, Shopify should be on your radar. It offers some of the best stock management features on the market, alongside a wealth of perks for sellers, including international commerce options and low transaction fees.

Shopify also integrates with a wide range of online ordering and reservation platforms, like DoorDash and OpenTable, making it easier for businesses to unlock new streams of revenue. Aside from external add-ons, Shopify also has a native POS integration, unlike the other options on this list.

This makes Shopify a natural choice for restaurants that are already using the POS, as the integration makes it easy for businesses to sync up brick-and-mortar and online sales data. All told, it’s far and away the best option for hospitality businesses that operate multiple venues, but smaller, independent venues should probably look elsewhere, as Shopify has a pretty steep learning curve due to its sheer number of features.

Shopify is capable of building polished business profiles. However, if you want to build a simple site to display menus and opening times, the platform’s ecommerce capabilities will be lost on you. What’s more, if these are your only requirements, you can save a chunk of money by opting for Hostinger or a similarly priced platform.

Shopify pricing

As Shopify is an ecommerce builder first, the average price of its plans is higher than other providers on this list. We break down the price of Shopify’s packages below.

Starter plan ($5/month)

The entry-level Shopify plan is primarily aimed at solopreneurs who want to get started with a rudimentary online store. You’ll be able to accept credit card payments both in-person and online, and list an unlimited number of products on a simple website, but there’s not a huge amount else.

Basic plan ($29/month)

This lets businesses sell an unlimited number of products, use two staff accounts, and manage 10 inventory locations. The plan also charges businesses 2.9% + 30¢ per transaction, which can add up quickly if you’re selling a high volume of products.

Shopify plan ($79/month)

The next tier up includes everything in the Basic plan with additional access to five staff accounts and more affordable card processing fees at 2.6% + 30¢ per transaction.

Retail plan ($79/month)

The Retail plan is made for brick-and-mortar businesses that want a simple online store. You get the same ecommerce features as the Starter plan, as well as unlimited accounts, customer management tools, and one POS Pro location.

Advanced plan ($299/month)

This includes everything in Shopify, with 10 times the checkout capacity, custom reporting, and analytic tools, access to 15 staff accounts, and 2.4% + 30¢ transaction fees.

What’s new with Shopify?

As part of its new catalog of releases, Shopify recently unveiled the AI Store Builder. With this, users can generate a new shop in seconds from a simple prompt. The Builder will create three different designs for you to choose from, meaning that you’re not stuck with the first option. It’s a really neat feature for restaurant owners who are not the most design-minded, but still want a great-looking site to represent their venue online.

4. GoDaddy

While GoDaddy might lack the bells and whistles offered by more premium builders like Wix, if you’re looking to build a simple website without investing tons of time and energy, it’ll likely be a great match for you.

When we tested out GoDaddy ourselves, we were able to build our website in under 30 seconds. This impressive setup speed is largely due to GoDaddy’s AI-powered builder, which automates a lot of the setup and creation process.

The website builder also offers a raft of other AI capabilities like text and social media content generators, which makes the platform a great option for restaurateurs who want to be assisted through the website creation process.

GoDaddy also lets you select your business’s vertical as you’re setting up, before providing you with stock images and template options that are appropriate for your business. This is a neat way of streamlining the design for more niche businesses, such as a wine shop, that might otherwise have struggled to find appropriate imagery.

Compared to website builders like Wix and Shopify, GoDaddy’s in-house capabilities are quite lacking. For example, the platform doesn’t let you make changes to your mobile site, and ecommerce sellers aren’t able to customize the checkout page with their personalized branding. GoDaddy doesn’t have an app store either, making it harder for food businesses to integrate with reservation and online ordering services. Notably, it’s the only provider on this list that doesn’t provide integrations.

Due to these shortfalls, GoDaddy will probably struggle to meet the needs of established restaurants and food delivery businesses. If you fall into this category, we’d recommend opting for more feature-rich builders like Wix or Shopify instead.

GoDaddy pricing

GoDaddy offers four pricing plans for prospective restaurateurs. They’re all fairly priced, which goes some way to explaining how GoDaddy earned its place on this list.

Basic plan ($9.99/month)

Premium plan ($14.99/month)

The Premium plan adds email marketing tools to the equation, which will suit businesses that work on a subscription basis, such as a monthly beer delivery service. You’ll also be able to create and schedule unlimited social media posts per month.

Ecommerce plan ($20.99/month)
