Editor X is the relatively new website builder platform from the people that brought you Wix. It was created with designers and agencies in mind as the target users, and therefore allows for more complex and creative sites to be made when compared to your typical website builder products — all while still remaining remarkably simple to use.

Editor X’s pricing plans are easy to understand, starting with the $22 per month “Essential” plan. Editor X isn’t quite as cheap as the Wix web builder product, but, then again, it’s mainly designed for creatives and businesses looking to build a world-class site.

Editor X Website Plans

All of Editor X’s website plans come with unlimited bandwidth and a domain, but aside from that, there’s quite a bit of difference between the plans. Here’s how they compare to one another:

Editor X website plans explained

Editor X’s website plans are designed for anyone looking to start a website that doesn’t need to take online payments. That means it’s ideal for everything from blogs to online portfolios, and even sites designed to attract customers.

You’ve got three plans in total to choose from, starting with the $22 per month Essential plan and rising to the $49 per month Ultra plan. There is a free plan but, as we’ll explain, it’s really not worth it.

Editor X Free

The Editor X free plan sounds ideal on the surface. You can build your own bespoke website easily, and without paying a cent.

But, while the best things in life come free, an ad-less Editor X site doesn’t. It’ll feature Wix-branded ads, and you won’t be able to use your own domain name. This means that your site will be almost impossible to find, and if a user does find it, bandwidth restrictions will mean it’s unlikely they’ll be able to load it. With a strong online presence being a crucial element of any business today, these limitations could lead to quite a negative first impression of your business.

And, at the end of the day, it just won’t look very good.

Editor X Essential

The Essential plan is the first plan worth getting. At $22 per month, it’s a bit more expensive than most website builder plans, but remember – Editor X allows you far more creative control over your site than other website builders, meaning you create something truly unique and strongly branded.

For your $22 a month, you get a full custom domain (which is free for a year as well), a free SSL security certificate, and $300 worth of advert vouchers for Google, Bing, and local listings.

You also get 10GB of storage space, an hour of video uploads, and 24/7 customer support – something that not a lot of website builders offer full stop, let alone on their cheapest plans.

Editor X Extra

The Extra plan costs $35 per month, and adds some nice extra features for the price. Storage, for example, is doubled to 20GB, as is the amount of video you can upload, meaning you can offer your site visitors a more compelling and media-rich experience than with other plans.

You’ll also receive the Visitor Analytics app free for a year. This app is almost essential for growing a site, as you’ll be able to monitor traffic and see how users behave once they’ve arrived on your site.

Editor X will also help you create a professional logo and social media logos for your site. Again, these are pretty important for growing your site nowadays.

Editor X Ultra

Finally, the Ultra plan costs $49 per month. Storage and video uploads are increased again to 35GB and five hours, respectively.

Most importantly, however, you’ll also get access to priority customer care, which lets you skip the line to solve any problems you might’ve encountered. Time is money, after all, so if you’re running a business using Editor X, it might be worth upgrading to the Ultra plan for that alone.

Editor X Business and Ecommerce Plans

If you want to use your Editor X site to sell products online, you’ll need to choose one of its Business and Ecommerce specific plans. Again, there are three plans to choose from, and they’re more expensive than the Website plans.

• Launch – from $29 per month
• Boost – from $69 per month
• Scale – from $219 per month

Editor X Launch

Designed to help businesses get off the ground, Launch costs $29 per month and gives you access to Editor X’s suite of ecommerce tools.

For example, you’ll be able to list an unlimited number of products on your site, as well as offering abandoned cart recovery to capture any orders you might have lost. Plus, you can sell products from your ecommerce store on Facebook and Instagram.

Like the other Editor X paid-for plans, Launch gives you a free domain for a year and 24/7 customer support.

Editor X Boost

The Boost plan costs $69 per month and adds some nice sales and commerce features which put Editor X up there with Squarespace’s Advanced Commerce plan ($49 per month) – a platform it can also compete with on a design front. 

With Editor X, you’ll be able to sell in multiple currencies, as well as sell subscriptions for recurring products. You’ll also be able to sell on marketplaces such as Amazon and eBay, and you can even plug in Modalyst dropshipping tech, if you want to sell cheap stuff in high volumes without the risks of carrying an actual inventory or creating a new product yourself.

Plus, you’ll get up to 60% discounts on USPS shipping, and Editor X will automatically calculate sales taxes on up to 100 sales per month for free – nice.

Editor X Scale

Scale is the most expensive Editor X plan, costing $219 per month. It’s the best plan for running a thriving online business, and like the Ultra plan, you get priority customer care.

The updates over the Boost plan are all focused on the volume of sales you can make. For example, you get automated sales tax calculations on up to 500 transactions per month, and you can drop ship an unlimited number of products per month. Plus, you’ll get up to 70% discounts on USPS shipping.

What is Editor X?

Editor X is a website-building platform created by the very same people that brought you Wix.

That, in our book, is a very good thing; Wix is the best website builder on the market. Editor X is aimed at a slightly different market, most of the things we love about Wix are still present.

Editor X claims it “is made especially for designers and agencies.” That might sound intimidating, but in practice, users should find that designing a new site is still pretty easy – Editor X still doesn’t require any coding knowledge, much like Wix itself. 

Editor X is the polar opposite of GoDaddy, which provides more assistance to build a basic website. GoDaddy is quick, clean, professional, and not for those who don’t have a firm idea of what they want their website to look for, like Editor X’s general clientele are likely to have. GoDaddy does the job, but it won’t give you the same control over design that Editor X will.

What is Editor X like to use?

With Editor X, it’s not a difficult process to create an online store within your site, or an area that can facilitate payments, bookings, and subscriptions. With the e-commerce market set to be worth over $6.1  trillion, there’s no time to lose. 

As of March this year, restaurant orders for pickup and delivery have been added to Editor X’s arsenal of features.

On top of this, you will find a range of significantly more advanced design options than you would with a system such as Squarespace, or even the regular Wix platform. Editor X gives you a super flexible CSS grid layout to allow for easy and intuitive element docking, anchoring, stacking, and scaling.

You can create CSS grids that sit on top of one another, custom breakpoints, repeaters, and even go into the back end and add custom code yourself. But you don’t actually even have to enter grid editing mode to resize grids – you can just click on them whenever you want.

With Editor X, it’s possible for more than one person to work on the same page simultaneously, and any changes made are visible instantly.

There are loads of intuitive design features like Max-Content, an advanced width sizing unit within which elements (like grid blocks) will automatically fit themselves to the maximum content size of text blocks and other elements inside them.

You can also use images and videos as section backgrounds, take advantage of novel scroll effects and add comments on the back end for collaborators to see. 

Once you’ve completed your site, you can then automatically translate it into over 180 languages whilst retaining the same page layout.

Editor X recently added over 700 staff members to its support team – who can provide assistance in nine different languages. Users can also take advantage of Academy X, a resource that Editor X customers can use to upskill themselves and learn more about the platform. There are even a number of blogs for inspiration!

In practice, it will make parallax scrolling and other typically complex website designs easy – making you look more professional and trustworthy as a result.

Editor X Alternatives

Editor X, then, is a platform designed for anyone who wants to have the utmost creative control over their website, as well as a powerful set of features to help grow a business or gain a larger following.

In truth, the closest competitor to Editor X is probably WordPress, given the amount of control you’re given over your website. However, to create a site with WordPress requires a greater knowledge of coding, and you won’t have access to the same levels of customer support.

Squarespace, however, could be a very viable competitor. Its class-leading website designs will make your site look exceptional, regardless of how much work you put into the design. What’s more, Squarespace is an excellent choice for small ecommerce sites.

You could, of course, use Wix as well. But, in our mind, Wix and Editor X are two quite different products. Wix is easier and more straightforward, and you can use either Wix ADI or Wix Editor to build your site.

Wix ADI uses AI to save you a lot of time in the initial stages of setting up your website and only requires you to input some prompts and info like your website’s name. Wix Editor is more of a “classic” website builder, with a lot more customization. Editor X, on the other hand, requires a greater understanding of website design (though not necessarily coding knowledge) in order to return a sleeker, more professional site.
