Last night, 1776’s Challenge Cup headed to Galvanize in Denver, Colorado to uncover a new batch of standout startups in Education, Energy, Health, and Smart Cities.

More than twenty startups presented their one-minute pitches onstage to a panel of ten judges.  The top two from each category, as decided by the judges, would move onto the next round.  Campuscene, Uvize, Avivid (the only energy contestant), Asius Technologies, Exchange Meds, LegiNation, and WeatherCloud would all receive this honor.

In the final round, these startups delivered a more in-depth five minute pitch, followed by three minutes of Q&A with the judges, where the startups would not only elaborate on their idea, but how they would monetize and scale.  The winners of the final round pitches receive an expense paid and one-week stay at DC for the final round competition and the chance to win $150,000.  The winners are below:

Campuscene – Campuscene is changing the college search from a daunting chore to an exciting exploration. We offer the only platform where applicants can view digital content–virtual tours, mobile search, interactive maps, social media, and more–for every school in the United States.

Avivid – Electrocoagulation process that solves the problem of scaling to large water volumes. Electrocoagulation is a technology that uses sacrificial anodes to place highly reactive ions in contaminated water solutions.

Asius Technologies — Hearing loss from earbud use is not inevitable and can be mitigated with Asius’ patented novel technology. Listeners will experience safer listening and high fidelity. Asius also was a top 5 finalist in Wall Street Journal’s Startup of the Year 2013.

Smart Cities

WeatherCloud – Collects road conditions with the mission to save lives by providing drivers the planet’s most accurate road weather and road hazard warnings.
